Rugby World Cup 2015: Tickets still available for Wales

Tickets remain unsold for Wales fixtures at next years Rugby World Cup, over a week after remaining seats were made available on general sale.

Over a million tickets for the tournaments 48 matches previously sold through a ballot system in September, with the remaining quota set to be snapped up this week.

But only three of eight matches being hosted by the Millennium Stadium have so far sold out.

And tickets for two Wales home games against Uruguay and Fiji are still available, with the Rugby World Cup ticketing website offering fans the chance to purchase up to 15 tickets for both games.

Fans can only buy a maximum of four tickets each for games with higher demand.

Wales will open their campaign against Uruguay at 2.30pm on Sunday, September 20, at the Millennium Stadium.

After a second match against England at Twickenham on September 26, which has sold out, Warren Gatlands side will then host Fiji in Cardiff on October 1.

Remaining tickets for Fiji and Uruguay cost £125 each and last month WalesOnline readers blamed the poor uptake on overpricing.

Reader Phil Dumelow said: Rugby in Wales was the working mans game, now it is just overpriced.

Make it realistic and the tickets will sell.

Andrew Reg Rendell wrote: They have finally managed to out price ordinary fans.

How much for a day out with the wife and two youngsters?

Ask yourself if you could afford to travel from Mid Wales, stay overnight, eat food, have some drinks, buy the tickets.

The managers and marketers are in another world.

The International Rugby Board (IRB) has previously defended its pricing policy, stating that more than one million tickets for Rugby World Cup 2015 will be made available at £100 or less and 500,000 at £50 or less.

And key figureheads in charge of bringing eight games to the Millennium Stadium have stated their delight after 100,000 tickets for those matches in Cardiff were sold this week.

WRU Group Chief Executive Roger Lewis welcomed England Rugby 2015 Chief Executive Debbie Jevans to the Welsh to discuss demand for games in Cardiff, including general sale tickets selling out for France versus Ireland on October 11 and two quarter-final matches.

Ms Jevans also met with Cardiff council chief executive Paul Orders and the Deputy Minister for Sport Ken Skates.

Its been a fantastic week for Welsh rugby with Wales historic win over South Africa and the news from Rugby World Cup 2015 organisers that another 100,000 tickets have sold for games at Millennium Stadium in the last seven days, resulting in general sale tickets selling out for the two quarter finals and France versus Ireland, said Roger Lewis.

Eight games at the Millennium Stadium is a fantastic achievement for Wales and the city region and planning is well underway at the WRU in collaboration with Cardiff council, Welsh Government, England Rugby 2015 and Rugby World Cup Limited.

The Tournament will generate a huge economic boost to the local economy when all roads lead to Cardiff next year and the key message coming out of Wales is that we are all working hard behind-the-scenes to ensure we deliver a warm and unforgettable welcome.

He added: Wales has some of the best rugby fans in the world, an unrivalled match day atmosphere and arguably the worlds best rugby stadium.

England Rugby 2015 Chief Executive, Debbie Jevans, said: Planning is on track and we are extremely pleased with ticket sales, with over one million tickets sold through the general sale ballot in September and the release of remaining tickets last week.

The Millennium Stadium is one of the greatest rugby venues in the world and to sell out the general sales tickets for France v Ireland and the two quarter-finals, whilst seeing sales of over 100,000 tickets in just seven days for the Millennium Stadium matches, highlights the excitement already felt across the nation for Rugby World Cup 2015.

Ken Skates added: Next years Rugby World Cup is an excellent opportunity to showcase Wales on a world stage and I am delighted tickets are selling well.

This is a chance to attract new visitors to Wales and we are working hard to ensure we make the most of this opportunity and the economic benefits it will bring across Wales.
